Old Puller Cup 2005

Report bad links

The 2005 Old Puller Cup team competition was held at St.Albans Chess Club on Sunday 15th May. The format remained the same as last year in that the top four scoring players from a club contributed to the final result in 3 sections. The sections being open, under 150 and under 125.
The top section was in doubt until the last round, but the favourites Royston ended up as comfortable winners with an impressive 100% in the last round. The under 150 section was closer but slight favourites Letchworth triumphed for the second successive year. In the under 125 section the result was a tie between Lower Red Lion and Welwyn Hatfield Chess Forum.
It was very pleasing to see a large proportion of players reappearing this year as well as many new players. A total of 42 players from 7 teams took part a slight increase on last year, at least 3 other clubs tried to raise teams, so the competition seems to becoming more popular.
